Four years is too long. Speaking from experience from NSW. The threat of an election motivates a politician like nothing else can.

Most definately....YES.
They should be held on the nearest Saturday to the electyed date four years earlier.
In other words, this year the Government is thrown out on November 24/2007 then we should have the next election on or about the 24/2011,no ifs or butts.....

I'd love to get more opinions and find out how a referendum would go. Is there an online voting site?

I have supported the concept of fixed terms for a long time. No less than four years, no greater than five years.

Personally, while we are a Federation, I would love to see all the states have their elections on the same day. In a different year, all the local councils have their elections across the nation. And ofcourse, the national government in their seperate year.

Would make it easier for political parties to plan election funding too.
