Why am I forced to vote?

By: Adults Choose Kids Rtold2 (Registered ) on 26-10-2007 05:25

Don't get me wrong, I would defend my democratic right to vote to the death if anyone tried to take it off me. But why am I forced to vote? Fundamentally it is anti-democratic to force people by law to vote.

I want to be inspired by my political leaders to get to the ballot box, not coerced by law.

Currently I am not inspired enough by any of the parties on offer so why should I flatter them with my endorsement?

Maybe without a 'guaranteed' electorate our leaders in the mainstream parties would appear less smug and more keen to impress. And maybe have different policies at least.

Adults choose their future, children are told what to do.
