My Taxes

Hi Murray

In reply I submit the following article from
http://www.wsws.org/articles/ 2007/nov2007/libs- n13_prn.shtml
(Snip) By Patrick O’Connor, Socialist Equality Party, Grayndler
13 Nov
“Howard’s speech consisted of a series of right-wing nostrums concerning individual responsibility and the family, boasts about the state of the economy and new promises of more public subsidies for private schools and day care facilities.”(end snip)
------------
My personal view, as a voter re Govt Subsidies:

A year of so ago I attended the opening of the “Acorn Child Care Centre” in Bundaberg. All the Bundy “Glitterati” were in attendance, with Member for Hinkler, Paul Neville (Nationals) opening the ceremony with an encouraging and enthusiastic speech. "Acorn" is owned by Dr Martin Strahan, a local property owner of some considerable wealth. He and his family are devout members of the 7th Day Adventists, with ancestors which go back to first settlers in WA.

Unfortunately, I had to wear shoes. I do not like to wear shoes as I find shoes very difficult to wear. You see, I nearly lost my foot to Gangrene following the knife of a Bundy surgeon, at the Base Hospital a few years ago. I had a rather nasty fall from a friends horse which shattering my heal.

While under the knife and recovering (as far as I am currently aware) the same Dr Martin Strahan was CEO of the Bundy Base while Dr. Patel was employed. I was told that I was “lucky” to have had such a fine surgeon operate on me. He warned there could be some complications.

My foot still aches constantly and swells up a lot.

My young daughter’s only friend at school nearly lost his life though fought hard to survive with the loss of half his leg. He is an inspirational young man.

As far as I am aware the same Dr Martin Strahan has recently built an aged care facility right next door to Acorn.

I wonder how much of my taxes will be going into Dr Strahan’s pockets for these two buildings?

I wonder who Dr Strahan votes for?
I wonder if Mr Neville cares how much my foot aches.

$3.5 Billion of MY tax dollars.

Anne
