Minister Billson's letter to Veterans

This was sent on 26 September:The Hon Bruce Billson MP
Minister for Veteran's Affairs
Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence

Dear Minister

I write regarding your proforma letter received today, dated 20 September 2007, under the same heading as the above 'Subject'.

I am a "Dear member of the Veteran Community" who has previously been verbally and in writing opposed to the apparently witless efforts by Government to convince me (and the general public) of the undying gratitude of government for the sacrifices made by that community on behalf of our Nation. I particularly refer to the enforced sacrifices imposed upon Veterans specifically and our families, in relation to our Superannuation funds themselves, and under the "Better Super' improvements introduced by this Government. So far

Billion's backflip on this was amazing from pouring scorn on Rudd for unfunded proposals to increase pensions to criticizing him for not going far enough in a few days.

Having personally met Mr Billson my opinion remains extremely unfavorable. Again they have come out with smoke and mirrors just before an election making promises but they are very short on details and still will not compensate those of us injured in peacetime duties.

There are a few things I would like to see happen. Pensions are tied to politicians pay and benefit increases, a senate enquiry into the running of the RSL and swift and fair compensation for service personnel injured in the line of duty regardless of the location. Voyager, F-111 de seal re seal Blackhawk crash Westralia fire the list of cases and accidents goes on and on. DVA is happy to pay lawyers to fight veterans rather than do their job and compensate for injuries.

Now we find the government is adding more insult to our injuries by compensating farmers and horse owners while they still deny us fair compensation. They are gutless wonders !
