Very interesting

Hate to throw a spanner in the works here but don't you think this discussion sort of exemplifies a major problem with the current system?

Who cares what party you vote for? Isn't voting about the right policies based on facts? If Labor is losing voters perhaps it should consider whether its policies represent their views. Or, heaven forbid, how about polling the people on the major issues? But we couldn't have a direct democracy could we, the internet and mobile phones make that all too hard. But that's off topic.

I for one am very happy that the old allegiances and 'blood lines' have been broken. There are very few ideas as ridiculous in politics than voting based on who your family has always voted for, running second only to voting for the candidate who'd name you like best and the candidate who 'looks most trustworthy'. If only we could break these ties on all parties and vote based on the facts we'd be a long way on to fixing many of our problems.
