Dear Jim

By: Doug (Registered ) on 16-10-2007 08:03

Dear Jim

I was sacked for refusing to endanger my life and the lives of others by using dangerously faulty electrical equipment.

Joe Hockey has written to me explaining that under the new federal workplace laws this is neither unfair not unlawful dismissal.

Do you agree that employers should have the right to sack workers for refusing to endanger lives?

I only ask this because you voted for the laws that allow this.

Occupational Health and Safety

By: Jacob (Registered ) on 16-10-2007 10:55

Doug's contribution indicates that Occupation Health and Safety is a non-issue as far as the Coalition is concerned. The Work Choice legislation is a real travesty against ordinary Australian citizens.

Worker safety

By: Doug (Registered ) on 16-10-2007 11:04

Worker safety is not a priority for the coalition parties. It is looking like they believe profits are far more important than workers lives.

I would love to be proved wrong on this point if anyone can offer information to the difference.

tax changes will not fix workchoices

By: pat rogers (Registered ) on 16-10-2007 21:02

seems to me that the government is once again trying to buy our vote - surprise, surprise!
well, the fact is that the proposed tax changes will not fix workchoices - workchoices is an anti worker piece of legislation - there is so much research showing how real wages have been cut for the lower paid in our community (even tho' the goevernment tries to deny it) - it is time to show the tories that enough is enough and toss them overboard!

invitiation

I have Just sent this link to Jim and asked him to join in the discussions. It will be interesting to see if he is willing to defend his statements. I think it will take a while for politicians to come to terms with the fact communications on the net are 2 way.
