truth?

It is time the general voting electorate demanded truth in advertising. Not only at election time. 
If we are prepared to cop rubbish, inaccuracies, lies, fabrications, prevarications, falshoods, and fibs, why on earth should people complain when pollies follow on. It seems to be a big game to see who can tell the biggest porkie at election time, and then find some remark like 'it was not a core promise', 'I had my fingers crossed when I said that', 'we all say thing to win elections, that we don't mean'. 
Why should this particular election campaign be any different? All we can do is sort out the proven liars and discount their words by the number of times they have been caught out before. 
I really think that the voting public has been switched off for many years now, and we have wound up with the government that we deserve. A complacent government that thinks it has the 'divine right', [old saying I know, but true], to be there, and it can play lord and master to those it rules. 
For years, I have been sick of elected members, of all branches, saying that they know what is best for ME. How the hell would they know? When you try to communicate with them, you can not get past the interference. How dare they say they know what I want. But, it is strange how I wind up paying for it. Like aircraft, still in the design stage, that have gone up by 30% already. Shades of the F111 order that won an election for Menzies. 
In case I am accused of bias toward the Labor Party, let me say that I have mainly fared better when a Liberal government has been in power. That does not mean that I have to agree with everything, or even a great proportion of their policies. We could have done a lot better under both parties. Australia as a nation may be doing well, now, but without forward planning, and the correct guidance, it may be on a slippery slide. 
What has happened to the country that at the end of WW2 had the 5th highest standard of living in the world? We have gone down an awful lot, and I, for one, would like to see it restored to it's former glory, not only for people who remember, but also for those who are just starting off now if they are to have a chance to get ahead.
