are we talking about the same bob?

By: anne_elk (Registered ) on 22-10-2007 01:36

Virtual, we obviously have met different men. The Bob Brown I met is inspirational and brought me to tears with his words. Strong, tall, charismatic and confident. As far as I am aware, this is the first election where he has come out and said that he is the "leader" of the Greens. Something that needed to be done, to compete (on equal grounds) with our other "Leaders".

He speaks about the FACTS clearly and "neatly"; without supurfluous generalisations and without the feel good "fluff" and babble of the other two leaders. He speaks like this because he DOESN'T have an unlimited media budget, he understands that EVERY word counts. He gets 3-5 second "news sound bites" because the media are obliged (by law) to give "equal" (unpaid for) time. How many ad's for the Greens have you seen/heard on mainstream media?

When he came to Bundaberg in the last Federal election he spent a good 10 minutes with my family and I, chatting in the heat of my tiny car. I felt very honoured, there were many people eagerly awaiting him. He wrote a full page message to my daughter in a book she still treasures. He also gave me an autographed copy of his book, "Memo for a saner world". Fascinating read, by the way. I recommend it if you want to really know how he ticks.

He is a true gentleman.
Perhaps he came across to you as "timid", because he did not want to offend you (or your opinions).

Wilba The Worm

In regard to MR Rudd "me-to-ing" they have placed $31billion on the table with other amounts to assist Australians in different areas of need. After the last election when labor announced their education plan,Mr Howard ended up taking a good deal of their ideas as his own.Rudd is thinking more of the people & solutions to problems that exist. For him to have covered their plans for the environment he would have been cut off midstream.I'm not saying his the answer but stacked up against Howards last 11 years he couldn't be any worse.I don't believe he was spooked he seemed annoyed at one point, this is an
observation from an independant's point of view.People go by how someone stacks up & body language, not the worm.

Brown is really Green......

By: raven (Registered ) on 22-10-2007 10:50

Bob does tend to send you to sleep, I have listened to him in parliament's question time.... yawn.... However, wasn't it the same Bob along with Kerrie Nettle who bruised George with some heckling... sorta loved that about him.

He also gives the sell out rock star, Garrett, a serve every now and then for his about turn on many environment issues.

Changing the landscape slightly...Where is Stott-Despoia?

Tax Plan?

By: AlanK (Registered ) on 22-10-2007 11:11

To me, it seems indecent that our politicians can even admit to finding so many billions of surplus tax dollars. Does this not mean that we are PAYING TOO MUCH TAX?
I would rather be paying less tax while the treasurer tried to balance the budget. Far better for we Australians, [to quote the PM], to be paying less tax into the coffers, and JUST FAIL, than be paying too much, and having to see the treasurers 'smiling' face too often. When he smiles, I shudder.
Let us hear it for balanced budgets. It means someone is doing there job. We do not live in a company where the bean counters are looking for profit.
With balanced budgets big ticket items will have to be accounted for next budget because the treasurer will have to spell it out and say why the tax rate will have to go up by a few cents in the dollar.

Budget

Alan K, I like your way of thinking simple & to the point. It would be excellent to see any political party being held accountable,I am still trying to work out the defense spending. Why did Mr Howard prepay for jets that won't leave the drawing board, did he recoup payment to go into other defense areas?
