Thiel gets set to steal Kalgoorlie

The woman who would have Barry Haase’s job has made a strong claim on his Federal seat this week by launching her initial television advertising campaign.
ALP Candidate Sharon Thiel is gearing up for this year’s election and says she has a strong message for Federal Kalgoorlie voters.
In her advertisement, Ms Thiel points out that it is unfair the Kalgoorlie electorate is seen as a huge source of wealth for the Howard Government and yet local communities aren’t getting their fair share back from Canberra.
“We simply aren’t getting the investment our communities need,” Ms Thiel said.
“Local Member Barry Haase admitted there was nothing for Kalgoorlie in the last Federal Budget, with no infrastructure funding to maintain the mining boom.
“In far too many rural and remote communities the Howard Government is spending less than $100 per person compared to the national average of $827 per person!”
Ms Thiel says her TV Campaign highlights that John Howard has “no plan for the future of our vast region”.
“We have valuable resources, a precious environment and communities that are working so hard; yet not receiving the health and education services and community infrastructure that other people take for granted,” she said.

“I want electors to know that only Kevin Rudd and Labor have a plan to keep our local economies strong by investing in an education revolution, skilling up our workforce with trade centres in schools and ensuring our kids reach their full potential with new literacy and numeracy programs.
“I am pleased that Kevin Rudd is an economic conservative who will keep interest rates low by keeping the budget in surplus over the economic cycle while maintaining the independence of the Reserve Bank.
“John Howard no longer understands how hard things are for working families.”
Ms Thiel says she is acutely aware that many local families are “doing it tough” with increasing interest rates or very high rents, childcare costs, petrol and grocery prices.
“We might be experiencing an economic boom but we are all feeling the pressure and concerned that our kids will never be able to afford their own home. He (Howard) has lost touch with working families,” she said.
“My Campaign may have far fewer resources than the local Liberal Campaign – which is supported by taxpayer-funded advertising – but we have a strong message that people are responding to.
“The voters of Kalgoorlie are tired of being taken for granted; and after 11 years in power Mr Howard has become stale.
“Only Kevin Rudd and Labor have a fresh plan to secure our future.”

Theil set to steal

By: Gooseman (Registered ) on 24-09-2007 10:44

Spare me the naivety of some political aspirants and their supporting bloggers.
Remember years ago when we thought that, because we had huge coal deposits for flogging to the rest of the world, Queenslanders should be getting a bigger slice of the action. Well it didn't work then and nor should it now.
Ms Thiel, you must unpack the word "commomwealth", this exercise may lead you to the realisation that the 'wealth' under your feet belongs to all Australians and is there for the 'common' good. Furthermore, if you have the inclination to study Australian Political Structures you will find that Health, Education and Community Infrastructure are very much responsibilities to be provided by the state, from funds originating from the Commonwealth.
Perhaps a tilt at a state seat would be more appropriate, provided you are not too chummy with Messrs Burke and Grille, you could then really go to town on these areas of state neglect.
Bon Voyage!!
