What is youdecide2007? youdecide2007 is an exciting new nonprofit citizen journalism initiative being led by the Creative Industries faculty at QUT, funded by the ARC, and supported by project partners SBS, On Line Opinion, the Brisbane Institute, the Creative Industries faculty at QUT. We will provide a forum for a seat-by-seat coverage of the 2007 federal election, produced by YOU, the voters, and aggregate it on our website for a new perspective on national politics. While many outlets provide a “top-down” coverage of the national battle, we will connect up local issues with the broader campaign, and with your help show how the big issues play out in specific electorates. So, as much as this is an experiment with a new kind of political coverage, its also a chance for you to hold local representatives accountable and renew parliamentary democracy. Its also a chance for you to be creative, and provide us with the kind of news coverage you'd like to see. We're accepting multimedia content, including text, video, audio and photos, so featured content could include: - short, print-style reports - longer opinion pieces. - video or audio vox-pops in your local area. - personal opinion pieces to webcam - recorded interviews with candidates and opinion leaders - slideshows combining photographs and audio - photographic essays - comment on other people's articles We have two main sections on the website - "Premium" and "Raw". YouDecide2007 Premium is the headline area for outstanding new content from our network of citizen journalists. This area will prioritise fact-based reporting that uncovers local stories that are relevant to the national campaign. Whether the content is written profiles, audio candidate interviews, photo essays or video vox-pops, Premium will showcase the best breaking stories from our citizen-led coverage.YouDecide2007 Raw is our "inside pages", hosting the stories that matter from all over Australia, as well as the more opinionated pieces that don't make it to the news pages. Raw is also the place for robust debate about local and national election issues. If you think a story from Raw should have led YouDecide2007 that day, rate it highly and the editorial team will listen. Due to Australian publishing law, we need to pass contributions through our experienced editorial team, and we need contributors to be registered users. A downloadable manual HERE tells you how to sign up, how our editorial and submission processes work, talks about the legal aspects of citizen journalism, and also gives out hints about how to pursue your stories.
