Cooperation

By: Graham Young (Registered ) on 02-10-2007 07:32

I'm fascinated by the proposition that the only reason there are problems is because governments aren't working together. Rhetorically it's one of those phrases that don't logically adhere to anything, but if you can slip it into the way people think it's hard to get it out.

Tea room conversation - "My mum's got real problems. Can't get into hospital to have her hip done." "Yeah...If only governments could work together rather than fighting." So it becomes the default lazy response to every proposition. Just another soothing and inconsequential noise.

Also reminds me a little of Bob Hawke's 83 election campaign. His proposition was that we could fix everything by talking about it, so his big promise was to have a summit. Kev07 isn't promising summits, but he's promising cooperation, and inquiries.

talking

Now talking is the one thing that politicians are good at...following up their talk in another thing.

costs of living

By: Spider (Registered ) on 08-10-2007 00:04

The Labor candidate certainly is listening to the electorate by the sound of it. Costs of living has blown out of proportion of the CPI and wages and it is making people hurt.

My wife works for a large supermarket chain and the feedback she gets from customers is that they are very angry. Angry at the federal government's refusal to even acknowledge that it is tougher to live financially now. The government's attacking people as being unable to handle money is certainly going to bite them on the posterior.

I do know Teresa Gambaro, sitting Liberal MP. She is a good person and a very good representative to have. Teresa just may become a victim for a change of government however, swings against Howard towards Rudd isn't coming from Queensland who would rather vote for Pauline Hanson.
