Peter Dutton... not well known?

By: Deb A (Registered ) on 17-10-2007 00:41

I was surprised to hear the view that people in Dickson might not know Peter Dutton. A Dickson resident myself, we receive regular newsletters from Dutton. The people we are least likely to know, in my opinion, are the ALP, Democrats and Greens candidates. Fiona McNamara is the ALP representative, Howard Nielson represents the Greens and Peter Kerin will run for the Australian Democrats.

I think this will be a very interesting contest in Dickson. The electorate hasn’t always been Liberal. The question of whether the residents will vote for the person or the party is a good one—especially when you consider that Michael Lavarch lost his seat to Tony Smith in 1996 (one of the little mysteries of life).
It would be great if Dickson residents would post their views or stories here.

Democrats Candidate

By: peterkerin (Registered ) on 30-10-2007 14:21

I agree. I think there could be a swing this election. I am the candidate for the Democrats and in my opinion the residents of Dickson are starting to see through Mr Howard. I would like to see the residents having more interest in each candidate and there views on a wide spread of topics.

Today I received my first call from a constituent asking me to answer a few different questions which I was very happy to do. In my opinion, the more interest the voters take in deciding the best representation for them the better the outcome in both houses of parliament.

campaigning in the electorate

By: Deb A (Registered ) on 31-10-2007 07:58

The candidates are starting to move around the electorate now. I've seen Fiona McNamara on the street a couple of times in the past week and she is always busy speaking to people.

Also, the Dutton camp called to my house this afternoon...I missed them...they kindly left a pamphlet on my doorstep.

agree with Kerin

I agree with Peter's point that things are much better for everyone when we take an interest in our representatives.

This election

By: peterkerin (Registered ) on 01-11-2007 07:43

It is great to see that some of the more unpopular topics are starting to receive a little attention from major parties. Unfortunately, remembering last election I am skeptical about party promises.

I would love to know if people believe that these promises will be carried out after the election, especially after Howard's medicare safety net scheme commitment was ditched 6 months after his re-election. He raised the threshold from $300 to $500 for low income earners and from $700 to $1000 for everyone else.

I am campaigning housing, medicare, health and tertiary education. Is there any issues that someone would like to see some attention given too?
