In previous elections I stood as a representative of the Australian Greens to ensure that their policies were presented to the public in the best way that I possibly could, to the best of my ability.
The Greens policies are about the whole “system”. I felt that is was my ethical duty and responsibility as a human being and a mother to promote their policies. I am a mother very concerned about Climate Change mitigation strategies being put into place by our leaders (with our taxes).
It was then, and it remains, my responsibility:
. To ensure that my children have a future to look forward to, a future that is bright and filled with happiness. A future without fear, without hunger, without wars and tortured prisoners. A future of peace, of stability, of plenty.
Our economy depends on our ecology. With an ecology in tatters, there can be no future economy.
Often a decision may not be “popular” with the locals… a perfect example is the Paradise Dam. Do I say nothing about the dam?
Obviously, Climate Change is also not a very popular topic. Though, figures look pretty depressing now-a-days.
The Greens spoke up for Hinkler against the dam for the lungfish and the turtle, for our fishstocks and to ensure that future generations of the lower Burnett River could be fairly represented. The Greens fully understand the implications of Climate Change and always have.
Who now owns that water that used to flow in our river?????
The Libs/Nationals and Labour Parties went ahead and desecrated Paradise- against their own enviornmental protection standards.
Politicians should not be vying for popularity competitions; they should be concentrating on how to best spend our taxes to the benefit of our people. Especially now, with climate change at last holding some “reality” in their minds.
