Peter Lindsay MP plans to deliver $10 million in funding to build the second stage of the new Creative Arts Centre at James Cook University.
“The Creative Arts at JCU is undergoing a major change and revitalisation at the Townsville campus,” Mr Lindsay said.
“Construction of the new Stage 1 Creative Arts building has commenced and is due for completion by early next year.
“I plan to provide $10 million to build the second stage, if I am elected for another term as the Federal Member for Herbert.
“The Stage 2 development will be a Multi-purpose Flexible Rehearsal and Performance Space, which will incorporate a Small Gallery and contemporary student learning spaces.”
“The new Creative Arts Centre will offer a range of state-of-the-art areas for students to explore creativity, including sound recording spaces, digital work stations, photographic and computer labs, a professional gallery and a range of students support areas,” Mr Lindsay said.
The College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre at Vincent Campus, has been renamed to the School of Creative Arts and its base has moved to JCU’s campus at Douglas.
The focus of the school has changed to digital media including imaging, media design, sound and visual arts.
