to Climate Change sceptics

By anne goddard,

Clearly, the issue of Climate Change is alive and well in the minds of many who will be casting their votes on 24/11/07.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" helped to facilitate a steep rise in public awareness.

Climate change skeptics argue that changes are natural phenomena caused by various things, and are nothing to worry about. Nothing to cause voters to seriously consider changing the way they have always voted.

Perhaps our own CSIRO along with the majority of the scientific community are in fact,   “left wing” idiots, and we have absolutely nothing to worry about. No theory can be 100% correct until it is proved beyond any doubt, right? Yep, right. Well, proving the scientific community right in this particular instance is not such a smart long term goal for our species.

Proving Climate Change is a just a bunch of hot wind from a kooky crew of left wing loonies has NOT happened. That is also not 100% correct!

What has happened is that climate change skeptics have provided us with “other reasons” for the phenomena.

Whatever the cause for the phenomena, and whether climate change is “real” or not, we have now been clearly warned.

Also clear to me is that the two majour parties are getting nervous and addressing the issue in their own way. Of course they have ensured that their policies promote “business as usual”. No need to upset the cookie cart.

Playing it safe, I will be choosing to cast my vote with a political party that has clearly and formally addressed the issue of Climate Change within their policies and who will provide local “clean” energy solutions which are economically viable and safe for myself and my family. Choosing a political party which has devised a solid financial plan to do this (with our taxes) is a very “safe” concept. I am so very glad (and grateful) that I have an option of not having to vote for the two majour parties.

This election I’m going to go with the scientific community because I am a climate change believer, have been for a long time. I remain hopeful that mankind can evolve beyond this global crisis.

To me, this election represents our last chance to get it sorted, in the right way, for all.

Make sure you know where the preferences will go when you vote for other than 'main stream'.

Yes i agree totally Raven. Preferences will be all important. When i say i will be going with the scientific community... i mean that i will be voting for a party that recognises the dangers climate change will bring us as presented by the scientific community. A party which has provided solutions to Climate Change in their policies (as have the Greens).

I hope to see an ALP govt with the Greens (and the Dems/SA) ensuring we HAVE a future. When in doubt of preference flow, I will simply put the party in question below the Libs/coalition.

Cheers and thanks for pointing out this issue.

Regards
Anne

re Al Gore

An inconvenient truth is a convenient way to make a few dollars on an issue where most everybody frowns from lack of knowledge, I for one are yet to be convinced of mans negative influence on climate change.

Carbon credits are surely a great way to become wealthy, for some!

Do you remember the hype around the Ozone Layer Depletion, little spoken of today. Then there was the millenium bug... how many people went rushing out to buy torches and stock up on various goods, not me anyway. Geez; how the world was gonna crash at midnight December 31st 1999. It didnt!

Whilst science has its place in todays modern world I remain sceptical of some of their motives...climate change being one of them.

Surprise !

There was just a National Farmers Federation advertisement on TV calling for action on climate change. It was NOT supporting liberals or Nationals parties but calling on all parties to help stop the damage to farming caused by climate change.
