LINDSAY SAYS NUCLEAR REACTORS THE ONLY WAY TO GO

By Joel Wilson,

Federal Labor Candidate for Herbert, George Colbran says Liberal MP, Peter Lindsay needs to come clean on his dirty plan to build a nuclear reactor in Townsville.

Mr Colbran has repeatedly stated his opposition to the Howard Government’s intentions to build a nuclear reactor in the Townsville region.

“If I’m elected as part of a Rudd Labor Government, there’ll be no nuclear reactor built in Townsville, nor on the banks of the Burdekin River, nor anywhere else in Australia for that matter,” said Mr Colbran.

“And what have we heard from Mr Lindsay so far? He says ‘nuclear energy is the only viable form of energy that’s available’.*

“And what have we heard from John Howard? He says he’ll legislate to build 25 nuclear power stations: "We will legislate, yes. Certainly in the next term of government. We're not walking away from that.”**

“I disagree with him and the community disagrees with him too,” said Mr Colbran.

“I’m interested in cleaning-up our coal, and I’m interested in energy alternatives like solar, wind and geo-thermal energy…I’m not interested in building nuclear reactors on the banks of the Burdekin River,” said Mr Colbran.

After 11 years Peter Lindsay is more out of touch then ever.

Congratulations Mr Colbran-ALP Herbert

By: anne_elk (Registered ) on 23-10-2007 23:51

Dear Mr Colbran

It was with great delight that i read an article about you this morning here: http://www.youdecide2007.org/ index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=307&Itemid=102
by Joel Wilson.
I ran as the Federal Greens Candidate against Mr Lindsey in the seat of Herbert 8 (or so) year ago.

Mr Colbran, I am completely overjoyed that you are "interested" in geothermal energy supplies.

Mr Colbran, I hope that you are elected because of this intelligent interest.

I also hope that you will have a loud voice within the ALP and help others who may be elected understand that Australia's future depends on clean, viable energy supplies.

Finally, Mr Colbran, please consider signing our groups online petition and gaining endorsement for its words from your colleagues in the ALP. The petition has been formally endorsed by the Greens, the Australian Democrats and the Socialist Alliance and is available from my website.

Further, it would be wonderful to see you write (and answer questions) directly at http://youdecide2007.org
I am sure, with interests like yours, you would be warmly welcomed.

Thank you for your honesty to date.

Regards
Anne Goddard

Labor Policy = Nucleur Energy

By: Spider (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 02:47

I do not care for what the ALP say during the election, their most previous national conference that sets Labor policy in government, made it their policy to have nucleur power in Australia.

This is all that matters.

Nuclear will happen

By: kasper77 (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 07:15

Coome on guys - lets get some radiation into our lives. Sunshine - electrosmog - microwave - you will love it after a while.
Better to breath and glow in the dark is it not?
Seriously - a few nuclear plants in Australia is the best solution and tell the idiotic greens to just disappear - grow some tomatoes and get out of politics.
The greens are so rediculous that it makes me puke.

Australia - the land of sleeping lizards - WAKE UP!!!

Nice one Kasper

Check out http://www.greenleft.org.au/ 2007/726/37659
I wrote an article about a fully renewables based Australian grid. lets tango Kasper.
Got any arguments to back up your pro nuclear stance or are u just a sh*t stirrer?
Australia has excellent potential to have a mainly renewables based grid within 10-15 years. Do you want to dispute this claim?
Any country with a nuclear power program 'ipso facto' (in the words of that wise man paul keating) has the basis for a nuclear weapons program. Do you wish to dispute this fact?
There is not enough uranium to provide thw worl'd energy needs with nuclear power, as uranium is a non- renewable resource, which -like oil- will run out. It will run out quite quickly if there is a major global proliferation of nuclear power plants- there will be hardly any left in as little as 50 years.
There is no way as yet to safely store the millions of tonnes of highly radioactive waste that is produced by reactors. the last thing we need is more toxic waste which will be radioactive for hunreds of thousands of years when there is no safe way to store it. Care to disprove this particular point?
And finally, uranium mining(often what are traditional sacred sites)on indigenous land is an absolute kick in the teeth for our second class citizens the Anoriginies, who never ceded soverignty of this country to the europeans.
I reckon youre just bored Kasper and couldn't begin to justify why nuclear power is a good idea, or indeed 'inevitable'.
Zane Alcorn
Socialist Alliance candidate for wills
(ps the paul keating thing was sarchasm, he is a tool. But his comments on nuclear power in this instance are completely correct)
