Its not only legal but essential

By: kasper77 (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 06:53

Very simple - no liberation of Iraq would mean a total loss of western dominance in the region.
You want that?
If you do then all I can say is emmigrate to China and please do it soon.
PS You would be one of the fools of the world.
To ask the question as to whether it was legal is to imply that you think the UN has any authority.
Are you stupid or what?
The UN is a joke and only there so that a lot of idiotic beurocrats have somewhere to gather and wank themselves.
So get real people - we are AT WAR - BASTA!
Chose your side!!!!!

"liberation"

By: MCDF (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 08:18

Ok so we had to invade Iraq so that China wouldn't invade Iraq... which they were just about to... is that right? And we had to invade Afghanistan to make sure 'we' could sabotage the supply of oil to China and Russia, in case the need ever arose- for example to protect freedom and democracy in the world.
So if we liberate Iran- by killing half a million or a million or them too- this would be an important step, right? To prevent tyranny?
And in fact, if 'we' were to liberate Iran, 'we' would have liberated a nice little chunk of the middle east from Afghanistran right down to the border of Saudi Arabia... Wouldn't that be a great act of freedom. For the whole world! I understand where Hitler was coming from now. Imperialism is really a wonderful, liberating thing isn't it.

We are not at war

By: raven (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 13:26

There is a war 'in' Iraq and wether it is legal or not is now irrelevant, Australia has chosen to send a few men & keep GB happy. If history deems it illegal at some future stage then lookout GB he may well go the same way as the man he usurped.

I doubt very much the question posed to two minor aspiring politicians stiting in the Sunshine Coast will make any difference regardless of their 'opinion'.

This war was wrong from the start, we were fed lies and softened up, now we have mostly forgotten why it started in the first place. It becomes a dinner discussion. Those poor sods in Iraq that cant get out to Jordon, Iran, Syria are stuck in a hell hole we hardly comprehend.

Bollox to your thoughts of liberation kasper, those unfortunate GI's fighting some oil baron's war would rather be somewhere else, thats been reported many times.

Do we know 'exactly' with whom 'we' are at war with?

collateral is a dirty word

By: virtual (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 22:13

check out the "collateral damage" of any war, be it legal or otherwise. (you could hardly call iraq and afgani a war, and invasion hardly does it justice .... annihilation is in the ball park)
crimes against humanity is also a dirty word which doesn't exist when you are the supposed winner.

illegal stupid and wrong

By: Joseph27 (Registered ) on 24-10-2007 23:39

Australia's involvement in Iraq was wrong from the outset - Saddam Hussein provided and important balancing act in the Middle East which kept Iran in check and Turkey on the border. Sure violence was an issue but with his removal the region is vastly less safe. (oh and a lot more people are dead today - not because of a dictator in Iraq but a looney in Washington)

Unfortunately however we are there but even more so - we the Australian people ratified this war by reelecting John Howard. We can't walk away from our mess. Of course our role is small - the larger concern is the increasing call from parties in the US to withdrawal. Again the American people ratified this war - they own it - they can't walk away.

Though this war is as bad as Vietnam - the stakes are higher. The world economy depends on the oil, the region is facing significant insecurity - so despite the war being wrong, we own the outcome - we are stuck there.
