Democrats and Greens announce Queensland Senate preference exchange

By Tracee McPate,

Queensland Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett and the Green Party’s lead Senate candidate have announced that they will exchange Senate preferences in Queensland ahead of the major parties and Pauline Hanson.

“Whilst I strongly believe my experience and record make me the best choice for Queenslanders in a Senate balance of power role, I also believe it is important not to increase the major parties’ domination of the Senate,” Senator Bartlett said.

“There is a real chance that the major parties will split all six Queensland Senate seats between them, which would leave Queenslanders without any voice in the balance of power.”

“However, whilst we need to prevent total major party domination of Queensland’s Senate representation, it is also crucial that the balance of power is not put in the hands of extremists such as Pauline Hanson, who is among many openly targeting my seat.”

“The Democrats will once again be putting Pauline Hanson last with our Senate preferences and urge all other parties to do the same,” Senator Bartlett said.
