Lindsay promises $6 million for Mt Low Parkway upgrade
By Nicholas Stanton,
Peter Lindsay MP plans to deliver $6 million to upgrade the Mt Low Parkway to three lanes.
“This will be welcomed by Mt Low Parkway and Bushland Beach residents,
as a central turning lane will provide them with safer and easier
access to their homes,” Mr Lindsay said.
The upgrade includes 3 lanes (two way traffic with a central turning lane) for about 3.7 kilometres from the Bruce Highway.
“The work was scheduled by the Thuringowa City Council to be completed
by 2014. However, engineer advice indicates early action is required.
Funding is needed to have the construction brought forward,” Mr Lindsay
said.
“This will address the real accident potential that happens along this arterial road.”
“The Mt Low Parkway is now a busy road, with the arterial used by more than 8,000 vehicles a day,” Mr Lindsay said.
“When the suburb is fully developed, traffic numbers will increase to 27,000 vehicles per day.
“Bushland Beach is a fast growing area, with the population expected to almost double in just eight years.”
It is estimated that the population will grow to 4630 in 2010, to 5985 in 2015 and to 9394 in 2025.
“I plan to provide the $6 million to upgrade the Mt Low Parkway to
three lanes, if I am elected for another term as the Federal Member for
Herbert,” Mr Lindsay said.
