Malcolm Turnbull has explained his alleged gaffe when talking to Peter
Cundall.
Turnbull said it's not that he "hated" the Gunns pulp mill nor that he
thought the Tamar Valley was a "stupid" place to put it, but that he
hated the way that the Tasmanian Labor government had gone about
processing the development application. Yeah, maybe!
I put it to George Newhouse that, given that the mill had now been
given the imprematur of both the state and federal governments, if
Labor wins the election they will have no option but to go along with
the plan since to renege on the proposal would cost the taxpayer
millions in compensation. He seemed to think that this about summed
it up.
Either way, I think that between them Malcolm and George have
effectively neutralised Gunns as an election issue in Wentworth
.
